Overall Analysis

Jesus and religion will always be there for anyone who is willing to listen and repent. Jesus walks with everyone and it’s never too late to follow his teachings. This is an example of the interconnection between religion and culture because no matter what happens in culture, Jesus will always be there for us. He may not be able to thwart the destructive actions of people, but he will be there when they fall.

Religious Model

The strong images portrayed in Kanye's video support the Interpenetration Model because, "Religion is a part of culture and the wider culture is a part of religion” (class notes). People must live by the morals of the bible and worship on a regular basis. They must turn away from sin and follow Jesus' way of living. When they successfully do this not only do they live in true happiness, but they get to enter the kingdom of heaven which is the ultimate reward for Christians. Anyone can change for the better and turning to Jesus helps achieve this goal. For example, Kanye follows three sinners in his video and illustrates the changes in their life that they try to make. Those people are comprised of are a drunk, a prostitute, and a gang member. The drunk is being taunted by three men and instead of going to them he turns to walk away. He does not do what they say so he dies by their hands. An angel disguised as a crippled man stops traffic in the middle of the street to help the old man’s soul cross over. The prostitute is being followed by a man and instead of getting in the car she begins to run away from him. He continues to follow her and he kills her in front of a gate. There are two boys at the top of it that are clearly angels because they are wearing wings and they help her soul over. Then there is the gangster who leaves his gang and is then killed by them. When he is laying on the floor an old man wearing wings helps his soul up. Despite the way they lived their lives, they were ultimately killed because they tried to change their ways and God recognized this strong will in them so he sent his angels to rescue his children. The three of them continue to walk the earth and they end up in church.
